Southern Legal Counsel is celebrating 40 years of service on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Spohrer Dodd is proud to sponsor the event that celebrates their work and its impact on society. Morris Dees, a pioneer in civil rights law and co-founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, will be the keynote speaker and will discuss using the law to combat hate and bring lasting positive change. Robert Spohrer, senior partner, president and CEO of Spohrer Dodd, was instrumental in securing the renowned speaker to mark the organization’s milestone anniversary.
“Morris Dees has an incredible story to tell and is just an inspiration to all of us who either work directly with or provide pro bono services to help those in need of civil legal representation,” said Spohrer. “I have known Morris for many years and I am still in awe of his work. He is the perfect person to help the Southern Legal Counsel celebrate their impact over the last 40 years. Both this organization and Dees have influenced and affected so many people throughout the years with their legal accomplishments.”
During Saturday’s event to celebrate Southern Legal Counsel’s 40 years of service, Dees will be honored for his many accomplishments that include his courageous defense of civil rights in the 1960s in Alabama, his landmark legal victories and his dedication to ensuring legal services to the poor and underprivileged. The 40th anniversary celebration will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 at the University of Florida Hilton in Gainesville, Fla.
