Attorney Bob Spohrer, Founding Attorney at Spohrer Dodd, has always taken great pride in his professional achievements and the various contributions he’s made to his community—especially regarding his involvement in the Southern Legal Counsel. Attorney Spohrer first joined the Board of Southern Legal Counsel (SLC) in 2010 in pursuit of a better Florida, free of social injustices. Since that time, Spohrer has contributed heavily to the organization’s work by chairing the development committee and launching various fundraising campaigns. His work both in and out of the courtroom has not only helped the SLC, but also has used the legal realm to positively impact society.
In a recent article, the Southern Legal Counsel highlighted Attorney Spohrer’s many contributions to the organization and explained how his efforts have had a significant statewide impact.
The SLC has been “balancing the scales” since 1977 when it first established itself as a non-profit public interest law firm focused on obtaining justice by upholding basic human and civil rights. Although the SLC’s main efforts center around representing individuals seeking justice, each case the organization takes on is also meant to fix the overarching problems and social injustices.
In Bob Spohrer’s own words, he describes his experience with SLC:
“When I came along in the 60s and 70s, law was the engine which was changing society. Law was the vehicle by which civil rights, women’s rights, children’s rights, were occurring in this country. And a lot of us wanted to be part of that.”
Attorney Spohrer is recognized as one of the Top 100 Trial Attorneys in the U.S. and has ample experience representing injured individuals in cases involving aircraft disasters, medical negligence, defective products, and insurance law. He has tried cases in State and Federal courts alike, and has even been featured in media coverage by The Washington Post, BBC, and 60 Minutes, to name a few. He is no stranger to fighting for his victim’s rights, and he has dedicated much of his time to pro bono work for those in need.
When asked about his work with SLC, Spohrer replied, “Individual rights are being eroded. It’s important to have organizations like SLC to defend the rights of people who are otherwise powerless, to spread messages of civil rights and tolerance, and to stand up to governments and agencies that want to take that away.”
