Public warning – Demand proof of proper wheel installation
Spohrer Dodd has earned a reputation for winning complex claims where fault is not obvious. But recently, our client was injured when his entire wheel came off at highway speeds, only minutes after being serviced at a local dealership. Our investigation found that the mechanic failed to tighten the lug nuts with a torque wrench to ensure that the manufacturer’s specifications were met. While we believed this to be a rare occurrence, we were surprised to hear of similar circumstances, and this simple mistake can have tragic consequences. We caution the public to demand proof that their wheels are properly tightened to the value reflected in the vehicle’s manual.
